Christchurch
We are thrilled to announce the expansion of Tongan Youth Trust with the opening of a new branch in Christchurch. This strategic move allows us to broaden our reach and better support Tongan and Pacific youth in the South Island. The Christchurch branch will provide a range of tailored services, including educational programs, cultural workshops, and community events, to empower and uplift youth in the region.
Auckland
The Tongan Youth Trust has also established a branch in Auckland, the birthplace of our organisation. This development allows us to continue our impactful work within the Tongan community and beyond, providing essential services and support to youth and families in the Auckland region.
Toutupu: A youth development framework for Tongan Youth Trust
The Toutupu Framework is a youth development model which creatively utilises theology as significant tool in shaping the mission of Toutupu Tonga Trust/Tongan Youth Trust. Its mission is to assist Tongan/Pasifika young people who experience vulnerability as they settle in the New Zealand multicultural context. The model is a product of 30 years’ service with Pacific young people.
The model starts with identifying values and goals and identifying the struggles/issues facing young people. The next move is to address practically responses can be made to those needs. The framework articulates how theology connects and assists youth ministry. It describes the connection between theology, values, goals, needs and struggles of young people. Moreover, the significance of considering context, creation and global issues such as climate change are vital in the model. Above all are measurable outcome that indicate life transformation young people are the climax of the framework. The measurable outcomes highlight the achievements.
